City of Lighthouse Point and Broward County, Florida
An IIH graduate emailed us at IAIH about the City of Lighthouse Point, Florida wanting to categorize a person with State-Licensed Diplomas in Hypnotherapy as a hypnotist along with psychics and astrologers. The charge for the Business Tax Receipt was going to be $1,000. IAIH went right to work and now the City of Lighthouse Point, Florida honors what Broward County had already acknowledged, which is that Hypnotherapist is under the category of "alternative/holistic medicine" and that they are offering the Business Tax Receipt as "mental health counseling". Our graduate was warned not to advertise as a mental health counselor, yet we consider this as a significant movement towards raising the public's image of how Hypnotherapists with State-Licensed Diplomas are perceived. We continue to proudly protect the free and open practice of Hypnotherapy and to raise the standards of Hypnotherapy Training, Ethics and Professionalism.

County of Miami-Dade
In June of 2018, it was brought to our attention that Miami-Dade County was requiring an Affidavit that Hypnotherapists needed to sign that virtually eliminated their right to practice their occupation. IAIH immediately went to work and had the County revise this Affidavit to accurately reflect Florida Hypnosis Law and to allow Hypnotherapists to legally practice in Miami-Dade County.

City of Davie, Florida
An Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy graduate and IAIH Member was going to be charged $879.43 per year by the City of Davie, Florida as they were going to place her into the same category as psychics, astrologers and clairvoyants, etc. We went to work to show that a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with State-Licensed Diplomas is in a completely different category and we manged to get the city to only charge her a reasonable $70.35 per year, while honoring that "Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist" is different from "Hypnotist".

City of Greenacres, Florida
With the help of IAIH attorney Jan Govan, IAIH President Matthew Brownstein successfully had the City of Greenacres, Florida Building Department to grant a Business Tax Receipt for a hypnotherapy graduate to legally use the occupational title of "Hypnotherapist."
